Job Description

Ryan has a career opportunity for an individual to lead the efforts of the Architecture and Engineering (A+E) department in Austin, TX. This individual will act like a principal in a traditional firm, and be responsible for the overall project success of multiple projects, from pursuit through turnover. We believe that candidates with 15 years of related experience are the most likely to be successful.

 

This Director of Architecture will be responsible for collaborating in an integrated project delivery process that is unique to Ryan. This process generally includes Ryan project teams consisting of architects, real estate developers and builders. Core responsibilities include establishing and building the overall Ryan and Ryan A+E presence in Austin, winning new business, negotiating design contracts, leading/managing architectural communications with our clients, supervising the work of a staff of architects and technicians, collaborating with other architectural firms, managing contracts and finances, and developing lasting business relationships.

 

  • Successful candidates will demonstrate the following characteristics:
  • Established network of business relationship in Austin and Texas
  • Ability to collaborate with an integrated team
  • Excellent presentation, organization, and communication skill sets
  • Proven experience leading overall design efforts
  • The ability to make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative
  •  Creativity, foresight, and mature architectural judgment in anticipating and solving problems, both design and technical in nature, from programming through construction administration.
  • Experience in the design of one or more of the following categories will be considered as the basis for the position: corporate office core & shell, multi-family and senior living projects, light industrial/distribution buildings, and/or medical office buildings
  • Experience in mission critical and corporate interiors will be considered secondarily.

 

Ryan A+E designs approximately one-quarter of the buildings Ryan builds, with core focuses on Office, Housing, Mission Critical, and Industrial project types. The majority of Ryan’s A+E staff is currently located in Minneapolis, MN. As the Austin presence grows over time it is anticipated that the staff will also grow under the management of the Director. During this growth period the project’s conceptual and schematic design will be led via the Austin Hub, and execution of the project’s DD and CD documents will be executed by the staff in Minneapolis. At the outset, the Austin staff will include one civil engineer and one architect who will report to the Director of Architecture. The director should anticipate working with other local or national design firms on projects where partnership is deemed to be the best approach.

Professional degree in Architecture and Architectural registration is required. Professional Degrees in related fields will be considered in addition to architectural degrees. Compensation will range based on each individual level of experience and expertise. Position is located in Austin, TX, however will include travel to Minneapolis on a monthly basis as well as potential travel for project specific purposes.
